Since Jesper still not totally recovered from his intelligence burst,
he had realized that he now had a golden opportunity to come back
home. So, he put down a huge amount of nagging to convince Darren that
the pharmacy in the east of Wagga Wagga was superior to any other
pharmacy. The only negative aspect, that it was very far away, was
according to Jesper more then compensated by the outstanding quality
of their aspirin, and by the fact that Jesper knew exactly how to get
there. Finally Darren was convinced by Jesper's argument and flew
straight towards Wagga Wagga. Even thought it made conversation a bit
harder Darren decided to fly with super sound velocity to make the
trip less time consuming. Jesper's pigeon brain came well in hand as
he guided Darren down on a big lawn less than a block away from the
pharmacy. After an unusually successful landing by Darren, Jesper
started to walk towards the pharmacy to buy the aspirin. However, just
before he was at the pharmacy he suddenly got an very unpleasant
felling that it was Sunday. This meant that this pharmacy, as well as
all the other two pharmacies in Wagga Wagga was closed. He stooped to
think.
He didn't like to go back to Darren and tell him that he had done
this long trip for nothing, especially since he remembered what Darren
had done to him was he wasn't angry at him. So, Jesper decided
not to tell Darren that the pharmacy was closed. Instead he walked
back to Darren and said:
"I just remembered that the front door to the pharmacy is very heavy,
and that I am a very weak man. Do you think that you can help me
push. You might have to use all your strength. Can you do that for me,
Olivia and Denise?"
"There is not a door that I cannot push up", Darren responded
confidently.
So, Jesper walked to the pharmacy with Darren in tow. On the way he
found a paper bag which he picked up since he assumed it could come in
hand. When they arrived Jesper pointed at the door and said:
"So, let's see if you are as strong as you say!"
Darren pushed, pushed, and pushed a little more but nothing happened.
It wasn't until Jesper started to give Darren insulting comments that
he managed to push the door, as well as some of the wall around it,
into the drug store.
At the same time as the door hit the floor, the store alarm went
off. Jesper hesitated for a few seconds, then he ran in through the
big hole in the wall. Inside it was very dark, and no signs of a light
switch. Jesper went groping around along the drug racks and put all
boxes that had the size and shape on an aspirin box into his paper
bag. He knew, since this was his home area, that the police generally
took five minutes to arrive at a crime scene after an alarm went of.
Fortunately, it only took Jesper three and a half minute to fill
his bag and to rush out of the pharmacy. He handed the bag to Darren
and said:
"Here is the aspirin my dear green friend. I also got you some
other useful stuff in case you need it. Fly back to the island with
this, I'll stay here."
Darren flew away and Jesper ran to the other side of the street and
looked up the front door to his house.
Inside, behind the door, he found a normal weekly doze of mail, that
is two letters, a postcard, and 45 kg of junk mail.
Before he had time to open the letters he heard that two police cars
were approaching. When Jesper one minute later looked out of the
window he could see that two policemen were examining the pharmacy
and two other that were looking for witnesses. In order not to panic,
Jesper started to talk to himself:
"Don't panic now Jesper! If the policemen ask me I deny everything. I
just say that I haven't seen anything. That's what I do."
He was interrupted by the door bell. With his whole body shaking, he
opened the door, and found a policeman that said:
"My name is detective Donald Woodpecker, and I like to ask you a few
questions concerning vandalism and possible burglary of the pharmacy
across the street. Did you see anyone who smashed the door or anything
unusual today like strangers standing outside the pharmacy discussing,
or anything else that might help us to figure out who did it?"
"No, I didn't", Jesper answered with a relatively calm voice.
"Are you sure?"
"Okay I admit, it was I who did it! But it was a dragon that needed
aspirin for a witch, so that she could hypnotise him out of his
hug-phobia, who forced me to do it!", Jesper screamed hystericly.
The policeman looked at Jesper, turned around and murmured:
"Are all our mental hospital so filled that there is not even
room for him?"
Jesper watched the policeman walk away. He felt really surprised not
to be arrested since just admitted the crime.
"It must have been my innocent face that saved me..", he thought.
Since the night had given its first sighs of arrival, Jesper started
to think about going to bed. At the same moment as he did that, he
twitched:
"Oh, it is Sunday today. On Sundays I always sleep in my weekend
house. It would not be healthy for me to change my sleeping habits so
suddenly. I must go to the pink house to sleep."
He looked at the clock and realized that he had to hurry to catch the
last train of the day.
After a rapid walk Jesper was a the train station. There he bought a
ticket and entered a train that was just about to leave.
