Department of Physics Monte Carlo simulations...: Grades from the computer labs

The course has usually been split into Theory with exam and Computer labs, but because of the present limitations with written exams, this will be somewhat modified.

• Computer labs, 4.0 hp: grade based on the bonus points = 3 + (bonus) x 3 / (max bonus).
• The Theory part is a small theoretical home exercise that you will have to solve by yourself, presumably during two working days. The grades for this part can be U, 3, or 4.

To pass the course requires grade ≥ 3 for both parts.
The total grade is then calculated from [3.5 x (Theory grade) + 4 x (Lab grade) ]/7.5, rounded to the nearest integer.

More on points for the computer labs:

• For Labs I and II there are additional voluntary parts of the lab as shown in the Lab instructions.
• Lab III works differently: There are five (?) different exercises. Each of you is assigned one of them, which is the mandatory part. For the voluntary part (4 bonus points) you chose and complete another of these exercises.
• The lab report should be handed in before deadline.
• For the mandatory part of the labs, you have the opportunity to correct your report if it is not approved. Corrections may be given in after deadline, but not later than June 20.
• In contrast, for the voluntary (bonus) part the number of points (0--2) is decided on the basis of the first version.

Therefore: (1) Read the instructions carefully. (2) Ask the lab supervisors when things are unclear.
